Product Overview

MacroSAN MS7000AFT (All Flash Turbo) is a new generation of all-flash memory array product launched by MacroSAN, MS7000AF enhanced version, MacroSAN’s first generation of matrix all-flash array, and the first matrix high-end all-flash memory array. It is applicable to the large database of data centers, virtual desktop and high performance computing, and provides the solutions for high performance storage, overall data protection, lifecycle management.

Product Features


(i) Matrix Full-exchange Architecture

Traditional storage array adopts double link for hard disk cell communication, but with the great increase of medium performance of flash memory, double link will inevitably become the performance bottleneck.

MacroSAN innovatively proposes the channel architecture matrix of full exchange flash memory, with each exchange unit carrying 25 SSDs, eight SAS3.0 exclusive wide ports and wide bandwidth of 384Gb/s. If the number of SSDs is increased, the corresponding channel and Scale-Out engine will be increase. Really have the performance of releasing back-end SSD, solve the link bottleneck, realize the growth of “400,000 IOPS per 25 disks” linear performance, up to ten million IOPS.

(ii) Guarantee of Extreme Performance

High-performance Architecture

Each MS7000AFT engine adopts the end-to-end high-performance architecture design, and sets up a high-speed data access channel through Ethernet host interface at the high speed of 40Gb/s, PCI-E3.0 internal bus, 8*4*12Gb/s SAS hard disk interface technology. In addition, a MS7000AFT single engine supports 1.5TB super cache, providing not only enough high-speed metadata space for all-flash array, but also a cache infrastructure for rich features of data management.

Excellent Ability of IOPS

In a typical database performance model (8K completely random, 70% read+30% write), a MS7000AFT single engine configured with 25 SSDs can reach the IOPS ability of 400,000, and support 1-8 engine expansion, with superior performance. Besides, each MS7000AFT engine can support capacity expansion and linear growth of performance through vertical expansion of hard disk cabinet, at the maximum expansibility of six SAS exchange units.

Various Flash Memory Medium

MS7000AFT supports several types of SSD. Meet the applied demands for read-write under high pressure, mixed read-write pressure by using different types of SSD to realize the ultrahigh cost-performance combination.

(iii) Architecture with High Reliability

Full Redundant Architecture

MS7000AFT inherits MS7000AF’s full redundancy architecture with high reliability to ensure system reliability. Each engine adopts the double-controller design, when a failure occurs in a single controller, it can automatically switch the service. Adopt the mirror caching mechanism to brush caching data into the hard disk after power failure; support SLUA/ALUA multi-path mechanism in order to quickly achieve the failover of host path. Multiple SAS link design is to provide redundant external port for each SAS hard disk cabinet.

Unique SSD Protective Mechanism

Due to the finite number of SSD wipe times, the important function of all-flash memory array is to monitor the usage of SSD. Besides, MS7000AFT gives play to its huge advantage in SSD protection because of MacroSAN’s IDDC and CRAID patent technology. Through the IDDC and CRAID protective mechanism, predict the possible fault of SSD, reduce the influence after the fault, protect SSD safety and reliability, and ensure data security of the core system.

(iv) Unique Optimized Design of Flash Memory

Optimization of Read-write Path

For different kinds of RAID, automatically perform different optimization algorithms of flash memory, reduce write operations, shorten the IO path, and realize performance optimization.

Write operation is processed in the write cache. Directly return to write confirmation, complete writing to reduce delay; after that, combine written content in the appropriate size of RAID stripe in the write cache, then brush SSD to prolong the service life of SSD.

Implementation of Fine Management

Cell refers to “active” data unit, the basic unit of storage resource management. Create RAID with SSD, and then divide available space of RAID into multiple Cells according to the specified length, break the bundling relations between LUN, RAID and Disk; thus, the smallest maintenance unit of RAID is changed into a smaller, flexible Cell from the original Disk, constructing a complete architecture of storage virtualization. 

In a RAID5 group, if two data blocks in a Cell do not break down simultaneously, the RAID group allows multiple disks to have medium damage, without data loss. Substantially improve the tolerance of SSD single disk to achieve fine resource management and flexible scheduling.

Triple Data Verification Mechanism

With the increase of SSD single disk capacity, the SSD reconstruction time grows linearly in order to improve data reliability. MacroSAN uses the erasure coding technology and the triple data verification mechanism to ensure physical failure of three hard disks in a disk group does not cause data loss and service interruption.

Improvement of SSD Durability

Adopt the mode of two-layer virtualization for management, i.e. hard disk management at the bottom layer and resource management at the upper layer, divide each hard disk space into small-grained data blocks. Based on the data blocks, construct RAID groups to ensure data can be evenly distributed on all hard disks of the storage pool. Meanwhile, data blocks are used as a unit for resource management, greatly improving the efficiency of resource management, in order to realize the global wear balancing, to greatly increase in the service life of flash memory.

Visual Analysis of Health Status

Provide you with a real-time report of SSD health status by means of the visualization software, showing health status of SSD and recording its changes, estimating the service life of SSD, in order to achieve early discovery and early judgment, to ensure service continuity.

(v) Rich Data Protective Function

MS7000AFT performs well in terms of data protection. MS7000AFT can provide rich data protective function, including continuous data snapshots, data replication and data mirroring, symmetric dual-active, etc. These features can be deployed between MS7000AFT series, and be compatible with whole MS series of MacroSAN, thus, realizing data protection of all- flash memory array in an all-round way.

Data Snapshots

Continuous data snapshot function of MS7000AFT creates the copy of multiple increment-based historical time points for data volume. When a “soft” data fault occurs, such as data corruption caused by software programs, virus damage and accidental erasure, mark the right time point for “rollback” to recover data quickly.

Data Replication

Data replication function of MS7000AFT is to recover data quickly in the event of an accident or a disaster in order to ensure user service continuity. Seamlessly connect to Ethernet and wide area IP link through an interface, even realize remote data backup without protocol conversion, effectively reducing the cost of disaster recovery.

Data Mirroring

Data mirroring function is to establish mirror data between two hard disk arrays and save a fully-synchronous real-time mirror image for master data. Each written IO is saved to the primary storage and the image storage simultaneously. When a failure occurs in the primary storage, the image storage will provide storage service.

Symmetrical Dual-active 

Symmetrical dual-active technology of MS7000AFT is to directly use two MS7000AFT storage arrays to realize dual-active of two storages, mutually redundant, without introducing a third-party’s software and hardware. When a fault occurs to one storage, the other will continue service in real time to achieve RPO and RTO of zero.

(vi) Lifecycle Management

Effective Use of SSD Space

MS7000AFT supports the functions of automatic thin provisioning, data replication  and data compression to improve the utilization rate of all-flash memory space and prolong the service life of the SSD.

Data Migration in the Array

MS7000AFT supports data migration, data cloning and other functions. According to application requirements, flexible data migration can be achieved in MS7000AFT, and the data can match perfectly with different SSD media.

Data Migration in the Array

MS7000AFT is compatible with MacroSAN MS whole series of storage, implementing data migration, data backup and disaster recovery from all-flash memory array into traditional array. Based on this feature, realize the deployment combining flash array with traditional array in the application, forming the complete solution of lifecycle management.
